New Job! Can’t wait to be at Woodland Park

Steve and I

I am stoked to announce that I have accepted a position to teach 7th grade Social Studies with a project-based curriculum at Woodland Park Middle School. Flashback time: 6 years ago, a visionary superintendent from Kansas named Steve Woolf came to KU and helped convinced me, a drifting student without a compass, that teaching was the career for me. Steve went on to become an incredibly important person in my life. He was a mentor for me as a teacher, a writer, and in the work I'm doing for the Open World Cause. While we couldn't work out a way to work together in Kansas - this spring, Steve reached out to tell me he accepted the superintendent position in (out of all places!) Woodland Park, Colorado - and just a short time later, the Social Studies position opened up at Woodland Park Middle School. A lot of words and phrases have come to my mind like "harmony" "meant to be", and "divine intervention", but most importantly, excitement - and I can't express just how excited I am for this opportunity. To all of my Monument Academy family, students, parents, and co-workers - you all showed me the incredible things that students are capable of and that teaching is the dream job for me - thank you for making the last two years beyond anything I could have imagined. To my new Woodland Park family, I'm honored to be a new part of your team. Attached is a picture Steve and I got in 2013 and a picture I got right after my interview with the Woodland Park team (I knew I had to capture that moment in some way).
